Volunteering at O Catorce on the 21st

14 October 2018

During the last months, a couple of volunteers have been eliminating eucalyptus on the two-hectare wood of the O Catorce amphibian reserve. At last they finished cutting them yesterday.

But this does not complete the work. Now it is time to pile up the foliage on one side, and the useful wood on the other, and to dry the stumps which are re-sprouting. In one word, a task that can be done at a pace suitable for each physical condition. Fine weather is forecast.

As usual, the meeting point will be the Outpatient Clinic of Betanzos, where we can share cars. No need to worry about tools, but it is advisable to wear leather gloves and clothes suitable to walk in the woods. Don’t forget something to eat and drink for the mid-morning break.

If you would like to participate in the deeucalyptization of the O Catorce amphibian reserve, please register for this environmental volunteering day by sending your data in advance (complete name, ID, date of birth and mobile number). This way, you will be informed on last minute changes, you will be covered by an accident insurance policy and you will facilitate organization. In section Contact you will find the necessary information.

Meeting point: Outpatient Clinic of Betanzos.
Date: October 21st, 2018.
Time: We will be leaving at 9.30 a.m., coming back at 2 p.m.

Post data: The thirteen participants of this volunteering day finished the work of piling up all the foliage and they eliminated most of the small shoots that sprouted the last two months. Now we only have to keep checking the reappearance of new shoots till we can be sure that all the stumps are completely dry and so confirm that there is none left throughout the O Catorce reserve.
